Wyoming County, WV—A car slammed head-on into a bus early Tuesday, September 28, 2010, consequently resulting in the hospitalization of 21 people. The injurious bus accident occurred in close proximity to McGraws, according to information provided by the Register-Herald.com.
Reports indicated a bus was traveling from a Glen Rogers-based residential facility to Saulsville when a passenger car traveling in the opposite direction veered over the centerline of the roadway.
Around 8:30 a.m., the car smashed into the front of the bus, which was occupied by 19 people at the time. The bus apparently careened over an embankment, only coming to a rest on its side nearly 30 feet away from the point of impact.
Eighteen people aboard the bus at the time were residents from Mullens Manor, which caters to adults with mental and physical disabilities. Though all of the bus’ occupants were taken to area hospitals after the head-on collision, their injuries did not appear to be life threatening.
Officials reported the 18 passengers, along with the bus driver and two people inside the wrecked car, were rushed to Welch Emergency, Raleigh General and Beckley Appalachian Regional medical centers for treatment.
Wyoming County Sheriff Randall Aliff contended wet roadways may have been a factor in the accident. Investigations into the bus wreck are expected to be underway.
